Tommy Fury pushes competitor aside for finish line video

At the 2025 Great North Run, Tommy Fury, brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury, sparked controversy by shoving a competitor to clear his path to the finish line.

The incident occurred on 7/9 at the 2025 Great North Run, which attracted approximately 60,000 participants. On the final bend before the finish line, Tommy suddenly accelerated, weaving through the crowd, and then pushed a runner in front of him out of the way.

The moment quickly went viral, angering many participants and spectators. "Please tell me this is a joke," one commenter wrote. Another asked, "Why did he have to push someone just to film his finish?".

Tommy completed the 21.0975 km Great North Run in an impressive 1 hour 34 minutes, significantly faster than his initial goal of 1 hour 40 minutes. On his Instagram Story, the British boxer wrote, "Yesterday was great. I was really surprised by my time, I thought I'd run about 1 hour 40 minutes but ended up exceeding that".

In an interview at the starting line, Tommy said, "The atmosphere here is amazing, and it's great to be a part of it. I hope this will be the first of many times I participate." After finishing in South Shields, he added, "This is probably one of my best runs ever".

Tommy has previously been criticized for disrespectful behavior towards fellow runners and for "showing off" by posting his finish line sprints on social media as personal achievements. At a 10 km charity race in Tatton Park last January, the 26-year-old nearly collided with an elderly woman while sprinting to the finish.

Last week, Tommy was found to have not completed a 100 km triathlon in France, despite celebrating at the finish line with his girlfriend Molly-Mae Hague.

Born in 1999 in Manchester, Tommy Fury is the younger brother of former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury. He competes in the light-heavyweight and welterweight divisions and made his professional debut in 2018 with a victory over Jevgenijs Andrejevs.

Tommy is undefeated in 11 professional fights, notably his bouts against YouTubers Jake Paul and KSI in 2023, which helped his name transcend traditional boxing circles.

The Great North Run is the world's largest half marathon, held annually in September in Northeast England, from Newcastle to South Shields. The race was founded in 1981 by Brendan Foster, an Olympic bronze medalist in the 10,000 m and current commentator for BBC Sport.

In the men's 2025 Great North Run, Alex Mutiso (Kenya) finished first with a time of 1 hour 0 minutes 52 seconds. He was followed by Bashir Abdi (Belgium) with 1 hour 0 minutes 58 seconds and Abel Kipchumba (Kenya) with 1 hour 1 minute 1 second.

In the women's race, Sheila Chepkirui (Kenya) won with a time of 1 hour 9 minutes 32 seconds. Vivian Cheruiyot (Kenya) finished second with 1 hour 9 minutes 37 seconds, while Eilish McColgan (Scotland) came in third with 1 hour 9 minutes 42 seconds.
