Before kickoff at AT&T Stadium, Texas on 17/6, Tuchel expressed frustration as dozens of photographers stood close to the technical area, blocking his view during the England squad's national anthem. "You're standing too close. I can't see anything," he stated.

The German coach then linked arms with his staff as "God Save the King" played, simultaneously looking up at the stadium's big screen to observe his players.
After the anthem concluded, Tuchel continued to react to the group of photographers. "What is this?" the 52-year-old coach asked before returning to the technical area.
After the match, Tuchel reiterated his complaints and proposed that FIFA change the photographers' positions during the national anthem. "I couldn't see my team during the anthem," he stated. "It's a very special moment. Today, I had to stand in front of about 50 photographers, just half a meter away, and couldn't see any players. That somewhat spoiled my experience."
According to British newspaper Sportmail, FIFA accepted this proposal and will change the pre-match procedure. Team coaching staff will be allowed to move along the touchline to observe the national anthem with an unobstructed view.

Tuchel had previously attracted attention by stating he would not sing the English national anthem in England's opening 2026 World Cup match against Croatia, though he did not rule out doing so if the Three Lions reached the final. The German coach emphasized he needed to "earn" the right to sing the English anthem when appointed head coach. Nevertheless, Tuchel admitted he knew the lyrics to "God Save the King."
Although not yet ready to sing the national anthem with his players, Tuchel asserted he increasingly views England as his second home. "Every time I land in England, I have the feeling of returning home," the former Chelsea and PSG coach said. "Now I often say I'm 'flying home.' I return to my house in London and truly feel it's home."
