The Vietnam women's futsal team secured a historic gold medal at SEA Games 33, triumphing over Indonesia with a dominant 5-0 victory in the final on the afternoon of 18/12. This remarkable win marks the first time a nation other than Thailand has claimed the futsal gold at the Southeast Asian Games.
Vietnam's goals came from: Thanh Ngan (6’, 7’), Thuy Trang (8’), K’Thua (11’), and Nguyet Vi (40’).
The team, under coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang, had a strong run to the final. In the group stage, Vietnam defeated Indonesia 3-1 and Myanmar 4-2, topping their group. Their semifinal clash against the Philippines saw Tran Nguyet Vi score the sole goal, securing their spot in the gold medal match.
Indonesia, after finishing second in Group B, delivered a major upset in their semifinal. They held Thailand to a 4-4 draw after regular and extra time, ultimately prevailing 7-6 in a dramatic penalty shootout.
