Vietnam's largest night run sets record with 13,000 participants

The VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight, scheduled for 22/3, has achieved a new milestone, registering 13,000 participants. This figure marks the highest number of registrations to date and solidifies its position as Vietnam's largest night run. The event's participant numbers have consistently grown, from 10,000 in its inaugural year in 2023, expanding to 11,000 in 2024, and 12,000 in 2025, culminating in this year's record.

Data from the organizers reveals that the half marathon (21 km) remains the most popular choice, accounting for nearly 40% of all registered participants. The 10 km and 5 km distances attracted approximately 30% and over 20% of runners respectively, while the full marathon (42 km) made up 10%. Ho Chi Minh City residents form the largest contingent, representing over 70% of participants. Hanoi ranks second in registrations, followed by southern provinces and cities such as Dong Nai, Can Tho, and Tay Ninh.

This year's event has drawn over 1,000 international runners from 54 countries and territories. The Korean running community leads this group with over 300 participants, followed by those from Trung Quoc and the Philippines. Participant demographics show a balanced distribution across age groups. Runners aged 31 to 50 comprise nearly half of the total, while those under 30 account for about 40%, highlighting a growing presence of younger runners.

The organizing committee is finalizing preparations to ensure participant safety and an optimal experience. Aid stations, medical teams, coordination staff, and cheering zones will be deployed along the course to support runners throughout the race. Now in its fourth season, the VnExpress Marathon Ho Chi Minh City Midnight is established as Vietnam's premier night run. Starting at midnight, the race route winds through central streets and past iconic city landmarks, offering a distinct experience compared to morning races.
