The qualification round featured 16 teams, with each team firing 60 shots. The top 4 teams advanced to the final.
At the Aichi Prefectural Shooting Range in Japan, Phi Thanh Thao and Nguyen Tam Quang ranked fourth with 631,7 points. However, the team faced a complaint regarding their equipment, which allegedly did not meet competition regulations.
Subsequently, organizers conducted an inspection under the supervision of representatives from the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). The inspection confirmed that Vietnam's shooting attire did not meet the required standards. Consequently, Thao and Quang's results were nullified. Japan, initially ranking fifth with 631,4 points, was then promoted to fourth place, securing a spot in the final.

The final is scheduled for 9h55 today, Hanoi time. Alongside Japan, the other three spots went to China, which led the qualification round and set a world record with 638,9 points, India (634,6), and South Korea (633,2).
According to ISSF regulations, athletes undergo equipment checks before competing in their first event. All Vietnamese athletes competing in the 10m air rifle events had previously met standards. However, organizers and supervisors reserve the right to re-inspect equipment after competition or in response to a complaint from another team.

On 20/9, Phi Thanh Thao, Le Thi Mong Tuyen, and Duong Ha My competed in the women's 10m air rifle event. My, Thao, and Tuyen finished 13th, 14th, and 27th, respectively, among 55 participating athletes. None of them advanced to the final, and Vietnam ranked fifth in the women's team standings.
One day later, Phung Viet Dung, Nguyen Minh Quang, and Nguyen Tam Quang placed 15th, 27th, and 33rd, respectively, in the men's 10m air rifle qualification. Vietnam did not secure a spot in the final and ranked eighth in the team event.
The shooting events at ASIAD 2026 feature 49 teams competing across 28 disciplines. After more than two days of competition, China leads the medal tally with three gold medals. Japan ranks second with one gold and one bronze. India has five silver and one bronze, while South Korea holds two bronze medals.
