Following Vietnam's 3-1 victory over Malaysia at Thien Truong Stadium on the evening of 31/3, Nguyen Xuan Son praised Do Hoang Hen. Hen assisted Son's goal, which extended Vietnam's lead to 2-0, and has been a key partner for Son at both club and national team levels.
According to the 1997-born forward, Do Hoang Hen's presence makes Vietnam's attack more dangerous and diverse.
"Everyone knows Do Hoang Hen is a skilled player with excellent technique and passing ability", Xuan Son stated. "I am happy for him, especially to wear the national team jersey. That is his dream. The national team is stronger now, which benefits everyone".

Do Hoang Hen was a key partner for Xuan Son at Nam Dinh Club, with their combinations often leading to goals. The 1994-born midfielder has assisted 11 goals for Xuan Son across all competitions. Hen's ball control and precise passing were crucial in helping Son maximize his goal-scoring potential.
When Do Hoang Hen was no longer playing alongside him, Xuan Son experienced a dip in form. From late 2025 to early 2026, he went scoreless in many domestic matches, despite consistently scoring in international tournaments before. The absence of a player capable of creating clear scoring opportunities contributed to the striker's difficulties.
Their reunion on the national team brought high expectations. This was evident in the 51st-minute goal against Malaysia, when Do Hoang Hen broke down the left wing and delivered a precise cross for Xuan Son to head into the net. This play demonstrated their continued understanding, despite limited training time together for the national team.

"In recent weeks, many people have commented on me and my physique", Son shared. "However, I continue to do what I always do. I scored 14 goals in the two previous seasons, and I believe I am currently scoring 12 goals, leading the national team's scoring chart. I just focus on my work".
Following surgery in early 2025, Son underwent a recovery process spanning several months, involving a strictly controlled training and nutrition regimen. Given his tendency to gain weight, maintaining muscle mass and stable fitness proved a challenge.
His brace against Malaysia served as a statement of his scoring ability, silencing doubts about his fitness. After scoring, Xuan Son lifted his shirt, displaying his abdominal muscles to the camera. This celebration quickly garnered public attention. "Tonight I feel great. I worked hard for this moment", he emphasized. "I thank God, my family, the fans, and the entire team".
