First international flight lands in Phu Quoc in 2026

The first international visitors from South Korea received welcoming flowers and vouchers upon arriving at Phu Quoc international airport in the early morning of 1/1.

Phu Quoc international airport welcomed its first international flight of 2026 from Busan, South Korea, on 1/1. Flight 7C2355 landed at 1 h, greeted by airport representatives at the arrival terminal. The first visitors of the year received New Year wishes and gift vouchers for entertainment services at Sunset Town, each valued at one million VND.

"This is my first time in Phu Quoc. We were surprised to receive New Year wishes and gifts from the airport immediately after getting off the plane. I feel happy and excited about my first trip of the year," shared Kim Min-soo, one of the first passengers from South Korea.

The welcoming event follows a year of significant growth for Phu Quoc. Last year, the Pearl Island welcomed over 8,1 million visitors, including nearly 2 million international guests. This generated revenue of nearly 44,000 billion VND, an increase of over 100% year-on-year. The island averaged about 100 flights daily, with nearly 50% being international. Passenger traffic through Phu Quoc international airport also increased by 44% compared to last year, projected to reach about 8 million by 2026.

This growth, especially from the South Korean market, is driven by the complete tourism, resort, and entertainment ecosystem in the South of the island, alongside an expanding airline network. The launch of Sun PhuQuoc Airways, positioned as an airline centered on Phu Quoc, also makes connections to the Pearl Island more convenient and cost-effective.

On the afternoon of the same day, Phu Quoc international airport will be transferred for operation to Sun Airway Corporation (SAC), a subsidiary of Sun Group. This strategic milestone is expected to boost not only the Phu Quoc special economic zone but also the long-term development of An Giang province in the new era.
