Lily field transforms Kinh Thay riverbanks into golden spectacle

A vast lily field, spanning tens of hectares along the Kinh Thay river's alluvial plain in Le Dai Hanh ward, Hai Phong, is currently in full bloom, drawing crowds and becoming a vibrant new check-in destination for young visitors.

Located at Vinh Tru islet in Hai Phong city's Le Dai Hanh ward, a sprawling lily field is now at the peak of its bloom. This scenic spot has rapidly captured public attention, becoming a social media sensation just days after its vibrant display was shared online.

Nguyen Trong Cung, 35, from Ha Noi, was among the first to explore the field on 10/1. Having previously photographed various flower fields, Cung expressed his astonishment at the sheer scale and beauty of the lilies at Vinh Tru islet.

"The endless colors of the flowers make me feel that Tet is very near", Cung said.

Vinh Tru islet, covering over 200 hectares along the Kinh Thay river in the northeast of the former Hai Duong province, boasts fertile alluvial soil and a favorable climate. Local farmers primarily cultivate crops such as: vegetables, bananas, sugarcane, and medicinal plants, with lilies being a prominent feature.

In previous seasons, local residents mainly grew fragrant pink lilies. This year, however, farmers have diversified, introducing numerous new lily varieties with a wider range of colors, resulting in higher yields. The flower plots are meticulously arranged with adjacent rows and convenient pathways for easy maintenance.

Lilies, scientifically known as Lilium, are herbaceous plants characterized by their bulbous roots and belonging to the Liliaceae family. Mature plants typically reach heights of 30-120 cm, featuring long, oval leaves spirally arranged around the stem.

The prime time for viewing and photography is within the first 3-5 days of full bloom, after which the flowers gradually wither and shed their petals.

Lilies display a spectrum of colors, including white, red, yellow, orange, and purple. Beyond their ornamental appeal, lilies are also utilized in the production of perfumes, essential oils, and cosmetics.

Hai Phong's early January weather, with temperatures ranging from 8-16 degrees Celsius, dry conditions, and warm sunshine, offers ideal conditions for outdoor excursions, flower viewing, and photography.

A photographer stated that the lily field is cultivated by residents for harvest, so there is no entrance fee. However, visitors are advised to move carefully between the rows, avoid trampling the plants, and refrain from picking flowers without the owner's explicit permission.

Visitors follow the flower rows to find ideal photo spots where lilies are in full, even bloom.

According to Cung, the best time for capturing stunning photos is in the morning, between 8h and 10h. Arriving too early might mean thick fog obscures the view, while late afternoons see sunlight fading quickly, making it challenging to capture beautiful moments. He also recommended wearing dark-toned clothing and exercising caution to prevent pollen from staining clothes.

Thao Men, 27, a Hai Phong resident, discovered the lily field through social media photos and decided to visit with friends on 10/1.

"It's the first time I've seen lilies of so many colors in such a vast field", Men shared, adding that the field offers an open space, complemented by distant crop fields and green banana groves, which create a picturesque backdrop for photographs.

The People's Committee of Hai Phong city has announced that the Vinh Tru islet area is slated for land acquisition. This land will be used for a mineral exploitation project, providing leveling materials essential for the construction of Gia Binh International Airport. Local lily farmers anticipate that this may be their final year cultivating on the islet.

To reach the lily field at Vinh Tru islet from Hai Phong city center, visitors should follow main roads towards Le Dai Hanh ward, then turn onto riverside roads leading to the flower cultivation area. Given its location on an alluvial plain, the access road to the field is quite narrow; visitors are encouraged to ask local residents for directions.

For those traveling from Ha Noi, taking a bus on the Ha Noi - Hai Duong route is recommended, followed by renting a moto to complete the journey.

Beyond the lily field, visitors can extend their trip to explore the Chu Dau pottery village or the Con Son - Kiep Bac historical site.
