A patient arrived at Rangueil Hospital in Toulouse, southwestern France, on the night of 31/1 and early morning of 1/2, informing medical staff that he had inserted the object himself.
During surgery, doctors removed a shell nearly 20 cm long and contacted the bomb disposal unit due to concerns about a potential explosion. Firefighters were also deployed to ensure fire safety while the bomb squad worked.
"The explosive device was neutralized," stated the Haute-Garonne provincial emergency services.

In 2022, an 88-year-old man was admitted to Sainte-Musse Hospital in Toulon, France, with a shell lodged in his anus. The hospital had to urgently evacuate adults and children, divert emergency cases, and request intervention from the bomb disposal team.
Bomb disposal experts at the scene identified the object as a 20 cm long, over 5 cm in diameter shell from World War I, used by the French military in the early 1900s. They assessed that it had a low probability of exploding inside the patient.
