Argentina national team supports China flood victims

The Argentina national football team will donate a batch of team merchandise to people affected by floods in Guangxi, expressing gratitude to Chinese fans.

In a statement posted on the Argentina national team's Chinese Weibo account early morning on 14/7, the team expressed being "deeply saddened" by the flood situation in Guangxi and wished to do something for fans in China, especially those in the affected regions.

"We hope to donate a batch of Argentina national team items, including water bottles, towels, clothes, and backpacks. We believe these items can contribute to the recovery and reconstruction efforts after the disaster," the statement read.

The team announced it is seeking partners to assist with the donation process, urging organizations or individuals with suitable transport channels to contact them to help deliver these items to the affected communities.

"Throughout the World Cup, we felt immense support and encouragement from Chinese fans. That was invaluable motivation for the Argentina team. Now, we hope to give something back in return for this affection," the Argentina team stated.

The donation comes as Guangxi recovers from devastating floods caused by Typhoon Maysak. Heavy rains led to a dam breach in Guangxi on 9/7, killing 39 people and leaving 9 missing.

Rescue teams are searching, relocating affected residents, restoring public services, and clearing damaged infrastructure, while aid and donations from across China continuously arrive.

The announcement received a warm response from the Chinese online community on Weibo. Many expressed support and appreciation for the team's gesture.

Some recalled the Argentina team's previous support for China during other natural disasters. They reshared images of essentials donated by the Argentina team after the 6,2 magnitude earthquake in Jishishan County, Gansu province, Northwest China in December 2023.

This pledge comes as Argentina prepares for their World Cup 2026 semi-final, where they will face England on 15/7. The South American representatives advanced to the semi-finals after a 3-2 comeback win against Egypt in the quarterfinals, continuing their journey to defend the world title.
