On 11/9, US Vice President JD Vance arrived at the airport in Salt Lake City, Utah, to accompany Charlie Kirk's casket onto Air Force Two. Vance's plane transported Kirk's remains back to his home in Phoenix, Arizona.
Officials confirmed that Kirk's family members and some of his friends were on the flight with Vice President Vance and Second Lady Usha Vance.
Vice President Vance praised Kirk as a good friend, recalling how Kirk campaigned "both publicly and privately" to help him secure the vice presidential nomination from Republican candidate Donald Trump during last year's election.
"Much of the success we have achieved in this administration is due to Kirk's ability to organize and rally support. He not only helped us win the 2024 election, but also helped appoint personnel throughout the administration," Vance said.

16 Republican representatives also wrote a letter on 11/9 to House Speaker Mike Johnson, urging him to erect a statue of Kirk on Capitol Hill.
"This would be a lasting testament to his career, courage, and sacrifice. It would also serve as a reminder that violence cannot be used to resolve political disagreements, and the fight for truth must continue," the representatives wrote.
Kirk, 31, was shot dead on 10/9 while speaking at an outdoor event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. President Donald Trump called the political activist "a legend" and announced he would posthumously award him the Medal of Freedom, America's highest civilian award.
