"My husband wanted to save young men like the one who took his life. I forgive that young man," a tearful Erika Kirk, 36, told a crowd of more than 60,000 at a memorial service for her late husband at State Farm Stadium in Arizona on 21/9.
Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old conservative activist, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University in Utah on 10/9. Tyler Robinson, 22, is accused of the shooting. Kirk was a co-founder of the youth conservative organization Turning Point USA and a key ally of President Donald Trump.

"I forgive him because that is what God did. And that's what Charlie would do. The answer to hate is not hate," Erika added.
President Trump also attended the memorial. Speaking from behind bulletproof glass, he praised Kirk's "kind heart" and enduring "fighting spirit."
According to the president, Kirk had previously told him about receiving death threats. "He knew the risks, but he never backed down," Trump said, while also claiming that violence "comes primarily from the left."
"He was like a missionary with a noble spirit and a high purpose. Charlie didn't hate his opponents and wanted the best for them. I don't agree with Charlie on this point. I hate my opponents, and I don't wish them well," he added.
At the end of his speech, the president invited Erika back to the stage and embraced her as the crowd cheered.

Charlie Kirk gained popularity among young people for his spirited and candid debates with students, especially those with liberal views. The activist championed a nationalist political ideology centered on Christianity.
Kirk supported conservative Christian political values and often made harsh statements targeting minority groups, including transgender people, Muslims, African Americans, and others.
According to investigators, the suspect, Robinson, stated that he shot Kirk because the activist was "spreading hate." Robinson faces 7 charges related to Kirk's death and could face the death penalty.
