At the crash site, rescue teams discovered the tan-colored chihuahua lying beside the body of its owner, Colonel Javier Nole, 50. Colonel Nole was on board the helicopter with his wife and two daughters.
As rescue personnel approached, the dog showed no aggression and did not attempt to flee. It had remained by its owner's side for hours, enduring cold weather and dense fog.
Local media reported the dog was in stable condition and has since been taken to a veterinary clinic.
The Peruvian Air Force has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident. This helicopter had recently been deployed for flood victim rescue operations in the region.
