"Like most people, President Xi appears to favor the shift from the inherently imprecise and inadequate term 'artificial intelligence' (AI) to the much more significant and accurate 'super intelligence' (SI)", US President Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on 24/9, following his discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Beijing has neither confirmed nor denied Trump's assertion. However, in a statement on 26/9, China's Foreign Ministry declared its "respect" for Trump's adoption of the new terminology for AI.

"Regarding AI terminology, China values the US's stance and respects its choice of words", the statement read. "Artificial intelligence technology is constantly evolving, and all parties can enhance exchanges, engage in in-depth discussions, and seek consensus based on the latest developments."

On 23/9, President Trump announced his administration would officially rename AI to SI in all formal documents and statements. This technology was a key agenda item during discussions between US and Chinese leaders in Washington.

Following the meeting between Xi and Trump on 24/9, US and Chinese officials confirmed an agreement to establish a communication channel for addressing AI-related incidents.

President Trump has frequently dismissed concerns about AI posing a threat to humanity. Conversely, President Xi has adopted a more cautious perspective, asserting the necessity of developing this technology under human control.
