Ana Corina Sosa appeared at Oslo city hall on 10/12 to receive the medal and diploma for the Nobel Peace Prize, awarded to her mother. Norwegian media reported that organizers decided to present the award in absentia to Machado due to security concerns. The Nobel Institute stated that the 58-year-old Venezuelan activist was not present in Norway at the start of the ceremony. Norwegian officials noted she faced numerous risks, making efforts to bring her from Venezuela to Oslo more challenging than anticipated. The Nobel Institute confirmed she was safe and would arrive in Oslo later.

Upon accepting the Nobel Peace Prize for her mother, Sosa revealed they had not seen each other in two years and greatly anticipated their reunion.
Some sources revealed Machado reportedly left Venezuela by sea, reaching Curacao island with US support. She was believed to have been in hiding for months after the 2024 Venezuelan election and was banned from leaving the country.
The ceremony was attended by the Norwegian royal family and several Latin American leaders. Addressing the packed auditorium, Sosa emphasized the award belonged to "the people of Venezuela".
Machado played a crucial role in uniting opposition forces in Venezuela. In 2023, she announced her candidacy for president in the 2024 election but was disqualified.
The Nobel Institute awarded the prize to Machado in October for her tireless efforts in promoting democratic rights for the Venezuelan people and fighting for a just, peaceful transition to democracy.
Commenting on Machado's absence from the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez accused Machado and the opposition of seeking to advance US interests to seize Venezuela's oil and mineral resources. "The show failed; she did not appear," Vice President Rodriguez stated.
