"France calls on NATO to organize exercises in Greenland and is ready to contribute", the French President's Office stated today.
European nations, including France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, have deployed personnel to Greenland for reconnaissance ahead of the Arctic Endurance exercise. Denmark leads this activity, involving NATO member states but outside the alliance's framework and without US participation.

French government sources believe NATO exercises would facilitate US participation, demonstrating Europe's interest in Arctic security.
US media, meanwhile, warns that France's plan could anger President Donald Trump. The US leader previously threatened tariffs on several European allies regarding their troop deployments to Greenland.
Greenland Premier Jens-Frederik Nielsen on 20/1 urged the island's residents and officials to begin "preparing for potential military invasion", even if unlikely. The Danish military also plans to increase exercises on the island, potentially conducting them year-round.

Greenland is the world's largest island, located near North America, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. The island, part of Denmark, has a population of 57,000 and an area of approximately 2.16 million sq km, making it larger than Mexico and over three times the size of the US state of Texas.
The island lies on the shortest route from North America to Europe, making it strategic for Washington. Greenland possesses abundant, untapped mineral resources.
The US president has recently expressed intentions to control Greenland, even hinting at using force to achieve this goal, despite opposition from Denmark and European nations.
