Gang smashes display cases, robs jewelry store in California

A group of robbers smashed display cases at a jewelry store inside a Los Angeles county shopping mall, making off with valuable items before fleeing.

A gang of five to eight masked individuals, dressed in black, approached Kevin Jewelers at Brea Mall in Brea city, Los Angeles county, around 11 a.m. on 13/1. They used sledgehammers to smash display cases, taking numerous pieces of jewelry and watches.

The suspects then left the mall in two vehicles, just before police arrived at 11:30 a.m. No one was injured during the robbery. The value of the stolen merchandise is estimated to be from several thousand to 100,000 USD.

Kevin Jewelers has been targeted by similar robberies previously, in April and September 2022. Police noted that Brea Mall's proximity to a freeway allows robbery crews quick access to the store, facilitating both the heist and their escape.

Police are currently analyzing security camera footage to track down the robbery crew. Chris Haddad, a spokesperson for the Brea Police Department, stated, "This is one of the shopping centers with the lowest crime rates in Southern California, but it is not immune to crime."
