General Secretary To Lam held a phone call with President Lee Jae-myung, affirming that Vietnam consistently regards South Korea as one of its top priority partners.

During a phone call with General Secretary To Lam on the afternoon of 30/1, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung congratulated the successful 14th Party Congress and General Secretary To Lam's re-election to a leadership position for the new term, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

President Lee Jae-myung expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, headed by General Secretary To Lam, Vietnam will continue to achieve its strategic national development goals, including double-digit economic growth.

South Korea's leadership values its relationship with Vietnam, consistently considering Vietnam a key priority partner in implementing its foreign policies in the region. He affirmed continued close cooperation with General Secretary To Lam to strengthen bilateral relations in the coming period.

General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the 14th Congress fulfilled its historical responsibility by reviewing 40 years of Doi Moi and outlining major directions for national development.

Both sides affirmed their commitment to fostering breakthroughs in economic cooperation, a main pillar of bilateral relations. They encouraged South Korean businesses to expand investment in Vietnam, particularly in semiconductors, high-tech electronic equipment manufacturing, and developing specialized industrial production complexes within value chains through projects by major South Korean corporations.

The two countries will continue to facilitate trade, open markets for each other's goods, and strive to achieve a bilateral trade turnover target of 150 billion USD by 2030. They also aim to enhance cooperation in science and technology, a new pillar in their relationship, and further expand cultural, tourism, and local cooperation.

Thanking President Lee Jae-myung for his congratulations on Vietnam's third-place finish at the U23 Asia 2026 tournament, General Secretary To Lam praised South Korea's contributions to the development of Vietnamese sports. He emphasized the desire for the two countries to cooperate and collaborate more extensively to achieve greater success, making it a symbol of their bilateral relationship.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, both sides agreed to work closely and support each other in regional and international forums of mutual interest, coordinating efforts to maintain peace and stability in the region, including the Korean Peninsula.

General Secretary To Lam requested South Korea share its experience and support Vietnam in successfully hosting the APEC 2027 Summit in Phu Quoc, and to expedite the organization of the Mekong - South Korea Summit.

General Secretary To Lam invited President Lee Jae-myung to visit Vietnam, and the South Korean leader accepted the invitation.
