In a televised message on 12/12, part of an annual charity fundraising campaign for cancer research, King Charles III announced, "Today I can share good news with everyone that thanks to early diagnosis, effective intervention, and strict adherence to my doctors' instructions, my cancer treatment schedule can be reduced in the coming year."
Doctors diagnosed King Charles III, 77, with cancer in 1/2024 while he was undergoing treatment for an enlarged prostate.
Reflecting on his personal experience, the British monarch stated, "From my own experience, I understand that being diagnosed with cancer is truly overwhelming. However, I also know that early detection is key, which can change the course of treatment, providing valuable time for medical teams and bringing hope to patients."

King Charles did not disclose the specific type of cancer he is being treated for or the methods of his treatment. He expressed deep concern that at least 9 million people in England have not utilized available cancer screening programs.
He added, "That means at least 9 million opportunities for early diagnosis have been missed," while commending advancements in cancer treatment and patient care.
Following the announcement, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer posted on X, emphasizing that early cancer screening saves lives. He also expressed pleasure at the positive progress in King Charles's treatment.
In 3/2024, Princess Kate, King Charles's daughter-in-law, also announced her cancer diagnosis and began chemotherapy. In 1/2025, she stated her cancer was in remission after nearly one year of chemotherapy, expressing gratitude for public support.
