Kremlin: Trump would make history if he controlled Greenland

The Kremlin spokesperson stated that President Trump would make world history if he controlled Denmark's Greenland island.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated on 19/1 that US President Donald Trump would "certainly make history" if he resolved the issue of annexing Greenland island. Peskov noted that international experts believe such an action would impact not just American history, but world history.

Peskov emphasized that his remarks were confined to "facts and assessments that are difficult to refute", rather than an endorsement or criticism of President Trump's actions. "Here, we are not evaluating the good or bad aspects, or whether it complies with international law", the Kremlin spokesperson added, distancing the Kremlin from judging the proposed move.

When questioned about President Trump's recent statements concerning a "threat from Russia", Peskov acknowledged "a lot of disturbing information" but confirmed that the Kremlin would not comment on accusations against Russia related to Greenland.

President Trump has recently insisted on controlling Greenland, an autonomous island belonging to Denmark, even hinting at the possibility of using force to achieve this goal. The White House has also asserted that the presence of European forces in Greenland does not affect US plans to control the island.

On 17/1, President Trump escalated his efforts by threatening to impose a 10% tariff on all goods imported from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland. This tariff is scheduled to take effect from 1/2 and would increase to 25% by early 6. He declared that this measure would remain in place until the US reached an agreement to "fully and completely" acquire Greenland.

Greenland, the world's largest island, holds significant strategic importance. Located near North America, between the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Ocean, it lies on the shortest route from North America to Europe, making it a crucial strategic location for Washington. The island, which belongs to Denmark, has a population of 57,000 people and an area of approximately 2,16 million km2, larger than Mexico and over three times the size of the US state of Texas. Furthermore, Greenland possesses abundant mineral resources, most of which remain untapped.
