A flash flood disaster struck the Nepal-China border region on the morning of 26/8, submerging villages and infrastructure. The incident left 180 people dead and at least 1,300 missing, including nearly 800 foreign nationals.

Following reports of the incident, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed Vietnamese representative agencies in the region to urgently contact local authorities and community leaders. Their task is to verify the status of Vietnamese citizens, including potential tourists or visitors, present at the time of the disaster.

According to the Vietnamese Embassy in China and the Vietnamese Embassy in India, also accredited to Nepal, no Vietnamese citizens have been reported affected to date.

The embassies are continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies and Vietnamese community contacts in the affected areas. They closely monitor the situation, update information, and prepare emergency protection measures should any Vietnamese citizens be found in distress.

Rescue teams in Nepal and China are searching devastated areas for victims. They are also racing to evacuate survivors from affected regions, as the possibility of another flash flood cannot be ruled out.
