The visit by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung follows an invitation from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Accompanying the Prime Minister are Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung and Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Dang Xuan Phong, along with other officials, according to Vietnam News Agency (TTXVN).

This marks the first time Prime Minister Le Minh Hung attends a BRICS summit, and the second time Vietnam participates as a BRICS partner.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang stated the Prime Minister's trip is a significant activity. It enables Vietnam to proactively grasp major development trends and cooperation orientations within BRICS and other multilateral mechanisms, effectively supporting international integration in the new period.

"This also presents a crucial opportunity to further consolidate and deepen relations between Vietnam and India, the BRICS chair in 2026, as well as with other BRICS member states and partners", she said.

During the discussion session on "Resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainable development: Shaping the future of global inclusive growth", Prime Minister Le Minh Hung will share Vietnam's vision, assessments, and proposals on major international cooperation issues. These include peace, promoting economic growth, sustainable development, and addressing global challenges.

The Prime Minister will also engage in important activities with Indian leaders and partners. These aim to strengthen political, foreign affairs, defense, and security relations, and enhance strategic coordination on bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual concern.

Discussions will prioritize boosting economic, trade, investment, science and technology, and infrastructure connectivity in Vietnam-India relations. This includes working towards a bilateral trade turnover target of 25 billion USD by 2030, increasing investment, and promoting large, symbolic projects by Indian enterprises in Vietnam. The aim is to create breakthroughs in science and technology cooperation, innovation, and artificial intelligence.

Leaders of both countries will also discuss and deepen other important cooperation pillars, particularly education and training, tourism, culture, and people-to-people exchanges. Specific topics for discussion include: increasing the frequency of direct flights between the two countries, developing two-way tourism, spiritual tourism, and cultural industries (especially the film industry), preserving and promoting cultural heritage values, and fostering people-to-people exchanges.

The group of emerging economies (BRICS) was established during a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Brazil, Russia, China, and India. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly's general debate in September 2006.

In 2010, with South Africa's accession, the group adopted the name BRICS, an acronym derived from the first letters of its five founding member states. BRICS does not have a dedicated secretariat; instead, it operates through a rotating chairmanship assumed by its five key members.
