The Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on 26/12 that former diplomat Arseniy Konovalov, born in 1987, was found guilty of treason. According to the FSB, Konovalov transferred classified information to the United States in exchange for money while serving there between 2014 and 2017.
The FSB arrested Konovalov last March. A Moscow court sentenced the former diplomat to 12 years in a maximum security prison and fined him 100,000 Russian rubles (about 1,200 USD).
The FSB did not specify what information Konovalov transferred to US intelligence or which US agency he allegedly worked with. US intelligence agencies have not commented on the report.
According to Kommersant, Konovalov previously served as the second secretary at the Russian Consulate General in Houston, United States.
