"Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill triumphed in World War II. President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump will prevent World War III," Kirill Dmitriev, special envoy of the Russian President, posted on social media last week.
The Russian official included a composite image. The top half showed the leaders of the Soviet Union, the US, and the UK at the 1945 Yalta Conference, the event that laid the foundation for the post-war world order. The bottom half depicted Putin with his American counterpart. The post also featured symbols of Russia and the US shaking hands, accompanied by a dove representing peace.

Special envoy Dmitriev also refuted the view of former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul, who suggested that Moscow was "not serious" in negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine.
"Wrong. Peace is approaching, thanks to the dialogue between Putin and Trump. Former US President Joe Biden's approach failed. Efforts to isolate and sanction Russia also failed. Dialogue, respect, mutual understanding, and working together to find long-term solutions are the way forward," he said.
After a long period of interrupted high-level US-Russia talks, Putin and Trump recently held several phone calls and met in person in Alaska last month. Both Russian and US officials praised the meeting as very productive, although a ceasefire agreement in Ukraine was not reached.
Last month, President Putin suggested there was "light at the end of the tunnel" to resolve the Ukraine conflict, but also warned that Russia would end the conflict by force if a diplomatic solution could not be found.
