The shooting occurred on the afternoon of 29/6 at a youth welfare facility in Stade, a city in the northern German region of Lower Saxony, local police reported.

Officials stated that at least five people died, and the number of injured remains unclear. Two individuals were arrested, including a suspected shooter.
There is no longer a threat to the community, Stade police updated at 12:15 GMT (19:15 Hanoi time). Investigators are collecting evidence and witness testimonies to determine the motive.
The incident has garnered significant attention because mass shootings are rare in Germany. The country has only recorded a few mass casualty shootings in the past two decades.

Germany does not prohibit gun ownership, but sales are tightly controlled, and citizens must have a license to possess weapons. The country has also experienced several extremist attacks, including a church shooting in Hamburg, northern Germany, that killed at least 7 people in 2023.
