Utah Governor Spencer Cox updated the investigation's progress on 14/9, stating, "The suspect has not confessed and is not cooperating, but everyone around him is. I think that's very important."
Governor Cox confirmed Robinson contacted several people on Discord after the shooting, claiming responsibility, but no one believed him.

The governor revealed Robinson's roommate, a male-to-female transgender individual, was romantically involved with him and "is actively cooperating with investigators." When asked about the roommate's gender's relevance to the investigation, Cox said it was something they were exploring.
Cox added, "Shell casings have been collected, other forensic evidence is coming in and we're trying to piece it all together."
Robinson, according to Cox, comes from a religious family in an extremely conservative part of Utah, but his ideology was "very different from his family's."
When asked about evidence suggesting Robinson was influenced by leftist ideology, Cox said the information came from relatives and acquaintances. The Washington County Clerk's Office confirmed Robinson was registered to vote in Utah but had no party affiliation and had never voted.
Robinson faces charges of aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and obstruction of justice. He has no prior criminal record.
On 12/9, Governor Cox said the state of Utah would seek the death penalty. "We will be seeking the death penalty. I'm working with the prosecutor to ensure that happens," he said.
