US President Donald Trump asserted that "most European nations are decaying" in a Politico interview published on 9/12. He characterized Europe's immigration policies as disastrous, claiming countries like the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, France, and Sweden are being destroyed by this issue.
He stated that European leaders "only want to maintain political image, so they do not take strong action, which makes them weak."
President Trump also criticized European nations regarding Ukraine, amid growing disagreement over a US-proposed peace plan. Many fear this plan would force Ukraine to cede territory to Russia. Trump noted, "They are all talk and no action, and the conflict continues."

Trump's interview amplified concerns across Europe, following the US's release of a security strategy last week. This strategy advocates for "fostering resistance in Europe to migration" and warns of the risk of "erasing civilization."
The United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, and Sweden have yet to comment on Trump's statements. Alice Rufo, a senior official at the French Ministry of Armed Forces, remarked that the new security strategy "brutally exposes the US ideological stance."
Trump also directed harsh words towards Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zelensky. "I think this is a critical time for Ukraine to hold elections; they are using the war to avoid holding them, which is undemocratic," he said.
Ukraine had scheduled elections for 3/2024 but postponed them due to the conflict with Russia. The US proposal to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict includes a requirement for Kyiv to hold elections.
President Trump reiterated his accusation that Zelensky has not read the peace proposal presented by the US. "It would be very good if he read it. Many people are dying," Trump stated.
In response to Trump's comments, President Zelensky affirmed Ukraine's readiness to hold elections if security can be guaranteed. Zelensky added that Ukraine would send its updated proposal to the US on 10/12.
