Officials from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sent a notification to Congress on 27/1, stating that during an incident on 24/1 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, federal agents attempted to arrest nurse Alex Pretti. He resisted, leading to a struggle.
As the team of agents tackled and attempted to subdue Pretti, one Border Patrol officer repeatedly shouted, "He has a gun!" Pretti was then shot multiple times with a Glock handgun by one Border Patrol officer and one CBP officer.
This information was obtained after investigators from CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility reviewed data collected from officers' body-worn cameras and based on agency documents. Video from the agents' body cameras in the incident has not yet been released.

US law requires CBP's Office of Professional Responsibility to notify Congress within 72 hours of deaths related to CBP operations.
A large-scale immigration crackdown led by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis has faced a wave of backlash after agents shot and killed two US citizens in recent weeks. A series of protests erupted in the city and other parts of the United States to oppose the allegedly "excessive" activities of ICE agents.
Ecuador's foreign minister also sent a letter of protest to the US embassy on 27/1 after ICE agents attempted to enter the Ecuadorian consulate in Minneapolis to make an arrest.
Video circulating on social media shows a consulate employee rushing to the door to prevent ICE agents from entering, telling them, "This is the Ecuadorian consulate. You are not allowed to enter."
One ICE agent responded by threatening to "apprehend" the consulate employee if he touched the officers. However, the ICE agents later departed.
International law prohibits local law enforcement agencies from entering foreign consulates or embassies without permission, except in life-threatening emergencies such as fire.
The State Department, US Department of Homeland Security, and ICE have not yet responded to this information.
Pretti is the second white US citizen shot and killed since federal authorities intensified immigration enforcement in Minnesota in 12/2025. He is also the sixth person to die in the nationwide crackdown launched by President Donald Trump.
