During a phone call with US President Donald Trump on 4/2, Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed hope that bilateral issues, with trade being paramount, could be resolved harmoniously.
"By resolving each issue and continuously building mutual trust, we can find the right path for both countries to develop peacefully," China's state broadcaster CCTV quoted Xi as saying during the call.
The Chinese leader called for 2026 to be a year where the two nations, as major countries, strive for mutual respect, peaceful coexistence, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

However, he warned Washington to be mindful of the Taiwan issue. "This is the most crucial factor in China-US relations. Washington must handle arms sales to Taiwan cautiously," Xi said.
President Trump also posted on the Truth Social network, stating he had an "excellent" phone call with the Chinese leader.
"The relationship with China and my personal relationship with President Xi Jinping are extremely good, and we both recognize the importance of maintaining that," Trump wrote.
The US president announced that he and the Chinese leader discussed trade, the Taiwan island issue, the Iran issue, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and his upcoming trip to China, expected in two months.
Trump added that China would consider increasing soybean purchases from the US to 20 million tons in the current season, a significant rise from the previous 12 million tons.
