US President Donald Trump launched TrumpRx, a new platform designed to help Americans access discounted prescription drugs, on 5/2 at the White House. The initiative aims to curb rising healthcare costs, a major concern for the public. "You will save a fortune," Trump stated at the launch event. "This also benefits the entire healthcare system."
The government-operated website facilitates the purchase of prescription drugs at discounted prices. TrumpRx does not directly sell medication but coordinates, guiding users to manufacturers' websites to complete transactions. The platform also provides discount coupons for use at pharmacies.
At its launch, TrumpRx provided access to over 40 medications. These include popular weight loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy, and the fertility drug Gonal F.

Trump emphasized that he achieved lower prices by pressuring pharmaceutical corporations on pricing. He had previously demanded that companies set US drug prices equivalent to those in other countries, suggesting that foreign drug prices would rise as a result. "We are tired of subsidizing the whole world," he stated at the TrumpRx launch. 16 of the world's largest pharmaceutical corporations signed agreements with the Trump administration to reduce drug prices for Americans, in exchange for tax exemptions from Washington.
The website primarily targets individuals without insurance or those whose required medications are not covered by their plans. For those with health insurance, TrumpRx may not necessarily be the most economical option.
Doctor Mehmet Oz, who leads Medicare and Medicaid, hailed the website as a breakthrough. He suggested that lower prices for Ozempic and Wegovy would help Americans "lose tens of millions of kilograms," while the reduced cost of Gonal F would lead to a widespread increase in pregnancies. "At this price, we will have many 'Trump babies'," Oz remarked.
