On 27/1, Elizabeth Landers, a reporter for US television station PBS, posted a photo taken at the White House. It showed US President Donald Trump and Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin standing together at last year's Alaska summit.
The framed photo is on the wall in the foyer connecting the West Wing to the residence. This appears to be the picture Trump said Putin sent him after the summit. Directly below it hangs a photo of Trump and his granddaughter Carolina at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.

Landers stated she had not seen this arrangement before.
Kirill Dmitriev, President Putin's special envoy, welcomed the news. "Good, a picture is worth one thousand words," he said.
Meanwhile, US Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Mark Warner, a Democrat, sarcastically commented that Trump "placed Putin above the American people and his family."
President Trump met his counterpart Putin in 8/2025 at a military base in Anchorage, Alaska, to discuss the Ukraine conflict. The Russian leader received a warm welcome at the conference, though no agreement was reached afterward.

John Foreman, former UK defense attache to Russia and Ukraine, said Trump always called the Alaska summit a great success, so the US leader publicly displaying a photo of the meeting is not surprising. However, this move could further convince Europe that Trump has a positive view of his counterpart Putin.
President Trump often said that US-Russia communication was maintained thanks to his close personal relationship with President Putin. Despite publicly criticizing the slow pace of negotiations and large-scale attacks on Ukraine, the US President still avoided harshly condemning President Putin, calling him a "strong leader."
