US President Donald Trump announced that Chinese President Xi Jinping would visit the White House later this year, stating in an 8/2 interview with NBC News that the "two most powerful nations in the world" share a "very good relationship".
Xi Jinping's last visit to the US was in 2023. President Trump also plans a visit to China in April.

This announcement followed a phone call between Trump and Xi, where they discussed trade, Taiwan, the conflict in Ukraine, and the situation in Iran.
During the call, the Chinese leader cautioned the US regarding arms sales to Taiwan, an island China views as its territory awaiting reunification. He also expressed hope for a peaceful resolution to bilateral issues, including trade.
"By resolving each issue and continuously building mutual trust, we can find the right path for the two countries to coexist and cooperate," state television CCTV quoted Xi Jinping.
Trump, for his part, characterized the phone call with Xi as "very good", noting that "both sides recognize the importance of maintaining this".
Last year, Washington and Beijing faced tariff tensions after Trump imposed high reciprocal tariffs on Chinese goods. Despite this, the two nations reached an agreement following months of negotiations.
The US, on 6/2, proposed trilateral talks with Russia and China to forge a new nuclear arms control agreement, following the expiration of the New START treaty between Moscow and Washington. Beijing, however, declined to join, stating its nuclear arsenal is far smaller than those of the two leading nuclear powers.
