"We're going to New Orleans and we're going to make it safe. New Orleans has some problems, some real problems, like murders, where you have a lot of murders. We're not going to put up with it. We're going in, and we're going to take care of it," President Trump said on 5/9 regarding his decision to send the National Guard to New Orleans.

He promised that New Orleans, a bustling city of nearly 400,000 people, would be "safe" within two weeks and praised the reduction in crime in Washington, D.C., since federal authorities deployed security forces to patrol the streets there.
"It'll be the safest place. And then we'll go to other places all over the country, and we'll bring crime down, we can't have cities run like that where they are unsafe," Trump stated.
President Trump confirmed the plan to place New Orleans police under direct federal control. He emphasized that Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, a Republican, is a "terrific guy" who wants federal assistance to improve the situation.
On 3/9, the president said he was considering deploying the National Guard to either New Orleans or Chicago. The Chicago plan could face obstacles as the city is in Illinois, led by Democratic Governor JB Pritzker, who has criticized Trump's deployment plans.
