"As I understand it, the format they proposed will include Ukraine, the US, Russia, and likely Europe as well, because representatives from this continent are also present there," Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said today, referring to the ongoing round of peace talks in Florida.
President Zelensky did not specify the US proposal, adding that Ukraine would decide whether to proceed after learning if the discussions between Washington and Kyiv on 19/12 yield results. He will further discuss this with Ukraine's chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov.

Umerov previously stated that the Ukrainian delegation met with US and European representatives in Miami, Florida. There, they "agreed on next steps and will continue coordination in the coming period." He had informed President Zelensky of the outcome.
A White House official confirmed that US special envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law, met Umerov "along with national security advisors from Britain, France, and Germany" on the morning of 19/12. US-Russian representatives are expected to meet separately on 20/12.
Kirill Dmitriev, an advisor to the Russian President, announced today on X that he "is on his way to Miami." He accused "belligerents" of seeking to undermine the peace plan the US has for Ukraine.

The Trump administration developed a 28-point peace plan in November to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict. It then conducted shuttle diplomacy to persuade both sides to accept it.
Ukraine and Europe quickly opposed the plan, as it contained proposals favorable to Russia, such as requiring Ukraine to cede territory, accept limits on its military size, and cease pursuing NATO membership.
Ukraine swiftly sought to negotiate with the US to revise terms, proposing a 20-point plan, while Russia refused to concede on its demands. These differences have prevented US mediation efforts from achieving a breakthrough.
