Upon the invitation of US President Donald Trump, a Vietnamese delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son attended the signing ceremony of the Peace Council Charter to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip on 22/1. The event was held on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President Trump, along with 19 leaders from countries and territories including Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Mongolia, signed the Peace Council Charter.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed Vietnam's appreciation for President Trump's efforts in promoting global peace, cooperation, and prosperity. He stated Vietnam's readiness to join the Peace Council as a founding member. During the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Son held discussions with members of the Trump cabinet, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, and Executive Council member Jared Kushner.
The Deputy Prime Minister expressed Vietnam's desire to work with council members to implement the Gaza Strip Peace Plan, adopted by the United Nations Security Council in Resolution 2803 on 17/11/2025. This initiative aims to foster sustainable peace in the Middle East, aligning with Vietnam's consistent position on the Palestine issue, international law, and the United Nations Charter. He also conveyed General Secretary To Lam's gratitude for President Trump's support for Vietnam-US relations and for a "strong, independent, self-reliant, and prosperous" Vietnam. An invitation was extended from General Secretary To Lam and other senior Vietnamese leaders for President Trump and the First Lady to visit Vietnam.

The US ministers affirmed their commitment to valuing and deepening the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the US, including accelerating an agreement on reciprocal tax negotiations. The US side welcomed Vietnam's becoming a founding member of the Peace Council, stating that President Trump would arrange a visit to Vietnam when conditions permit.

Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son also met with President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, and held discussions with the foreign ministers of Indonesia, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia, as well as the Peace Council High Representative and former United Nations envoy to the Middle East, Nickolay Mladenov, to explore cooperation opportunities. The partners welcomed Vietnam's decision to join the Peace Council on Gaza, expressing confidence that Vietnam's foreign policy, resilient history, and experience in overcoming war consequences and successful nation-building offer meaningful lessons. They assessed that Vietnam's participation would contribute positively to the regional peace process.
