Wife of general secretary and president donates "Vietnam bookshelf" to Danish library

The wife of the general secretary and president presented publications on Vietnamese history, geography, and art to a library in Denmark's capital, Copenhagen.

On 19/10, Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary and President To Lam, visited BIBLIOTEKET Rentemestervej in Copenhagen with Queen Mary of Denmark. This library and community cultural center was inaugurated in 2011.

The facility is a multi-functional complex, encompassing a library, cultural house, creative workshop, community center, citizen service office, cafe, and concert hall.

The wife of the general secretary and president and the Queen of Denmark toured the reading rooms and preschool children's play areas, and made bookmarks. Expressing a desire to introduce Vietnam's land, people, history, culture, and daily life through books, Ngo Phuong Ly announced the donation of the "Vietnam Bookshelf" to the library.

The bookshelf includes literary works such as "De Men phieu luu ky" (Diary of a Cricket) and "Dat rung phuong Nam" (Southern Forest Land), alongside fairy tales and numerous publications on Vietnamese history, geography, art, heritage, and customs.

Expressing hope that the library will continue to share readers' needs in the future, the wife of the general secretary and president affirmed that Vietnam will continue to add and update many more titles to enrich the collection, contributing to fostering friendship and mutual understanding between the two nations.

Queen Mary noted that donating books to the library is a practical approach that not only promotes local reading culture but also strengthens the foundation of friendship between the people of the two countries, fostering greater understanding of Vietnam among the Danish populace, especially future generations.

The Queen shared that Vietnam and its people hold a special connection with the Danish Royal Family through the memories of the late Prince Henrik, father of King Frederik X, regarding his years living in Vietnam.

Queen Margrethe II and Prince Henrik had visited Vietnam many times. Queen Mary stated that she still cherishes memories of Vietnam's land, people, and culture from her trips with King Frederik X when they were Crown Prince and Crown Princess; she also expressed a wish to return to Vietnam soon.
