Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump visited the historic Temple of Heaven in Beijing today, following their bilateral talks at the Great Hall of the People. The visit, a key part of Trump's state visit to China, saw the two leaders tour the ancient site, with discussions on sensitive topics like Taiwan also taking place.
The two leaders arrived at the World Heritage site around 1 p.m. Beijing time, pausing for commemorative photos in front of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. This iconic structure is the most famous at the Temple of Heaven, a place where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties traditionally prayed for abundant harvests on the winter solstice. Ancient Chinese emperors held agriculture in high regard, viewing it as a foundation of governance.
During their tour, President Trump expressed his admiration for the site. "This structure is magnificent. It's amazing. China is beautiful," he remarked. When asked about his earlier discussions with President Xi, Trump simply replied, "great." However, a reporter's subsequent question regarding the Taiwan issue went unanswered by the US President.

Earlier in the day, President Xi presided over a welcoming ceremony for President Trump at the Great Hall of the People before their formal talks. According to Chinese media, the sensitive issue of Taiwan was a prominent point of discussion, with President Xi issuing a clear warning.
"Taiwan is the most important issue in China-US relations," the Chinese leader stated. "If not handled appropriately, the two countries could conflict or even clash, pushing the entire China-US relationship into an extremely dangerous situation."
The state visit is set to continue tonight with President Xi and President Trump attending a state banquet at the Great Hall of the People.
