Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi confirmed on the evening of 15/5 that President Xi Jinping's visit to the US will occur at the invitation of President Donald Trump.
"Both sides need to work together to prepare thoroughly, create a favorable atmosphere, and achieve more substantive results from the meetings and exchanges between the two heads of state", he said.

Not long after departing Beijing, President Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he and the Chinese president would meet three more times this year.
The US president stated that President Xi had invited him to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, scheduled for Shenzhen in november. "I will try to be there", Trump said.
The US leader added that the Chinese president also wished to attend the G20 summit in Miami in december. "I want him to come", President Trump stated.

Reflecting on President Trump's visit to China, Foreign Minister Wang stated it was a historic event. "The two leaders engaged in in-depth discussions and achieved substantive results", he said, also commending progress in trade and economic sectors.
The Chinese foreign minister indicated that trade negotiators had achieved "positive and overall balanced results", including the continued implementation of all agreements reached in previous consultations.
The US and China resolved issues regarding agricultural market access and agreed to boost trade expansion based on mutual tariff reductions. Both nations also consented to establishing a trade council and an investment council.
On the Middle East conflict, Wang stated that China encourages both the US and Iran to resolve disagreements and disputes through negotiations. China also supports reopening the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible, provided a ceasefire is maintained.
