In an interview with the Atlantic published on 12/2, President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukraine is not an obstacle to peace. Kyiv has demonstrated its willingness to negotiate by supporting proposals from the US aimed at advancing discussions.
"Our chosen tactic was to ensure Americans do not believe we want to continue the war," Zelensky said. "That is why we began supporting their proposals in any form that could accelerate progress."

The Ukrainian President affirmed he would not accept any agreement he considered detrimental to the country. He emphasized, "no peace deal is better than forcing the Ukrainian people to accept a bad agreement." According to the Ukrainian leader, any solution leading to an end of hostilities must ensure lasting peace, guarantee dignity for Kyiv, and include clear security assurances.
President Zelensky also addressed the issue of elections, affirming "no one is trying to hold onto power." He added, "I am ready for elections. But to do that, we need security, security guarantees, and a ceasefire."
Negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia, and the US have been prolonged without a final resolution, as the parties have yet to find common ground. Both Russia and Ukraine continue to launch attacks against each other.
On 11/2, Zelensky stated that territorial issues would be the central focus of the next round of negotiations. He added that Russia demands Ukraine withdraw its forces from the entire Donbass region, including Lugansk and Donetsk provinces, but Kyiv does not accept this option.
