The BYD Seal 5, a C-segment sedan, expands the Chinese automaker's plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) offerings in Vietnam alongside the Sealion 6. While specific configurations for the Vietnamese market are yet to be revealed, two versions are available in Thailand: Standard and Premium.
Measuring 4,780 mm in length, 1,837 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, the Seal 5 has a wheelbase of 2,718 mm. While longer than C-segment competitors like the Honda Civic and Mazda3, its wheelbase is slightly shorter.

The BYD Seal 5 boasts a modern, EV-inspired design with a frameless grille. Its rear profile resembles a smaller version of its larger sibling, the all-electric D-segment Seal, which launched in Vietnam in July/2024.
Standard features in Thailand include LED headlights and 17-inch wheels. The interior offers a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.8-inch LCD speedometer, an electronic gear selector, and a rotary control knob.
The Premium version adds a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, automatic wipers, a 360-degree camera, and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS).
Powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a front-axle motor, the Seal 5 delivers 217 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. The Standard version's 13.08 kWh battery provides an 80 km all-electric range, while the Premium version's 18 kWh battery extends this to 120 km.
BYD claims a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.5 seconds and fuel consumption of approximately 3.8 liters/100 km.
In Thailand, the Seal 5 Premium is priced at 22,078 USD. The price for the Standard version has not yet been announced.
In Vietnam, hybrid options in the C-segment sedan market currently include the Toyota Altis and Honda Civic. However, unlike the Seal 5's PHEV system, these Japanese rivals use self-charging hybrid (HEV) technology. The Altis, also imported from Thailand, ranges from 725 to 870 million VND, while the Civic is priced between 789 and 999 million VND.
