On 12/9, BYD launched the Yangwang U8L, a large luxury SUV, priced at 1.28 million CNY (179,800 USD). This extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) boasts an impressive 1,180 horsepower.
Measuring 5.4 m in length, the U8L features BYD's cutting-edge technologies, including the God’s Eye advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS), e4 (four-motor) technology, and the DiSus-P+ intelligent body control system. The SUV's dimensions are 5,400 mm long, 2,049 mm wide, and 1,921 mm high, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm.
Built on BYD's e4 (Yisifang) platform, the Yangwang U8L accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, rivaling the BMW M5. It has a minimum turning radius of 5.45 m and features tire pressure monitoring to maintain stability even at high speeds in the event of a blowout. Beyond this, it offers remarkable maneuverability with zero-radius turning, crab-walking, and emergency flotation capabilities. The vehicle offers 13 driving modes, tailored for conditions including snow, sand, and flooding.

The Yangwang U8L's powertrain combines a 2.0 engine, a 55.53 kWh Blade battery, and four electric motors, delivering 1,180 horsepower and 1,520 Nm of torque. It offers a 200 km all-electric range and a total range of 1,160 km. The fuel tank capacity is 90 liters. Fast charging from 30% to 80% takes just 13.5 minutes.
BYD's God’s Eye A (DiPilot 600) ADAS utilizes three lidar, five millimeter-wave radar, 14 ultrasonic radar, and 18 cameras to enable high-speed navigation-on-autopilot (NOA), urban NOA, automatic parking assist, and remote parking assist.
The infrared night vision system detects moving objects up to 120 m away and has a maximum detection range of 300 m in dark, foggy, rainy, or dusty conditions.
The U8L's interior features a six-seat, 2+2+2 configuration within a 5.3 m3 cabin. Maximum second-row legroom reaches 280 mm, and the cargo area offers a maximum volume of 1,115 liters. Smart glass adjusts tinting based on ambient light conditions.
The cockpit is equipped with BYD's DiLink 300 system, powered by a 3nm cockpit control chip. It features a 12.8-inch curved OLED center control screen, a 23.6-inch instrument panel, a passenger-side multimedia screen, and an augmented reality head-up display (AR-HUD). Rear passengers enjoy a 21.4-inch ceiling-mounted entertainment screen.
The second-row zero-gravity seats include headrest speakers, an 18-point massage function, smart screens in the armrests, leg rests, small tables, and wireless charging.
Other features include 32 Dynaudio speakers, a 1.7 m2 panoramic sunroof, a refrigerator, 13 charging ports and USB outlets throughout the cabin, 14 airbags, and 128-color ambient lighting. BYD claims a cabin noise level of no more than 64.6 dB at 120 km/h.
