In 2018, while most electric motorcycle startups were still experimenting with rudimentary designs or simply cheap electric scooters, a small company in Stuttgart quietly introduced a two-wheeler with a unique design. After 7 years, the Sol Pocket Rocket is finally ready for mass production.
The German company is now accepting pre-orders for the electric motorcycle, which looks like a cross between a torpedo and a watering hose. Despite its humorous appearance, the Sol Pocket Rocket could become one of the most interesting urban electric vehicles to hit the streets.

The Sol Pocket Rocket comes in two versions: the standard and the more powerful Pocket Rocket S. The Pocket Rocket S is equipped with an 11.4-horsepower electric motor and reaches a top speed of 85 km/h, while the standard version has a top speed of 45 km/h, fitting into the moped category in many markets.
This makes the Sol Pocket Rocket an ideal choice for cities, especially in Europe, where lightweight electric motorcycles are increasingly popular among young people who want a fast, fun, and emission-free vehicle without the size, weight, or cost of a traditional motorcycle.
The 2.5 kWh battery may not sound impressive, but it provides a range of up to 108 km for the low-speed version or 68 km for the high-speed version, enough for most city commutes. The battery is also removable, making it convenient for charging in an apartment or office. The standard charging time is 4 hours, and fast charging takes 2 hours.

The Pocket Rocket's large aluminum tube body houses the battery and electronics, while a minimalist single seat protrudes from the rear like the back of a cafe racer. The frame, wheels, and swingarm are all finely crafted.
The dimensions of the vehicle are 1,820 mm long x 740 mm wide x 1,090 mm high, with a wheelbase of 1,210 mm and a seat height of 840 mm. Ground clearance is 160 mm.
The bike is equipped with hydraulic front suspension while the rear suspension is also hydraulic but adjustable. Both front and rear brakes are hydraulic disc brakes.

Sol Motors positions the Pocket Rocket not just as a stylish electric motorcycle but also as a viable alternative to cars for city dwellers who want to avoid traffic jams and parking difficulties. The bike is lightweight, fast enough for urban streets, and small enough to fit into even the smallest bicycle parking spaces. It weighs 71 kg without the battery and 87 kg with the battery.
The company is currently accepting pre-orders, and the starting price is 5,990 euros for the standard model and 6,990 euros for the S version. The price is not cheap, but it's not overly expensive in the current market for well-designed, European-made electric two-wheelers.
