According to the August sales report from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), D-segment SUV sales reached 1,778 vehicles, a 12.11% decrease compared to July's 2,023 vehicles. This decline reflects the overall trend in Vietnam's automotive market in August.
Within the D-segment SUV category, the Isuzu mu-X was the only model to experience growth. mu-X sales rose from 16 vehicles in July to 23 in August, a 43.7% increase. While sales remain modest, this is a positive sign for the model.
The Hyundai Santa Fe and Mazda CX-8 experienced the most significant declines in the segment. The Santa Fe delivered 208 vehicles in August, down 25.7% from 280 in July. Similarly, the CX-8 sold 157 vehicles in August, compared to 212 in July, a decrease of 25.9%.
The Toyota Fortuner saw the third-largest decline at 23.3%. Fortuner delivered 266 new vehicles in August, compared to 347 in July. Following closely was the Kia Sorento, with a 10.1% decrease. The Sorento sold 71 vehicles in August, 8 fewer than in July.
The Ford Everest had the smallest decline in the segment, at 3.3%. It also remained the best-selling D-segment SUV with 1,053 vehicles sold in August, down 36 vehicles from July's 1,089.

The Everest continues to lead the segment with year-to-date sales of 7,276 vehicles. Competition for the subsequent rankings intensifies between the Fortuner with 2,022 vehicles, the Santa Fe with 1,769 vehicles, and the CX-8 with 1,595 vehicles. The Sorento and mu-X trail behind with year-to-date sales of 587 and 171 vehicles, respectively.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport has not recorded any sales since April.
