On the afternoon of 29/8, an electric vehicle (EV) was traveling at high speed in the left lane of the Hanoi - Hai Phong highway near Phung Cong commune (formerly Cuu Giao commune, Van Giang district). Suddenly, the hood flew open, completely blocking the windshield. Recognizing the danger, the driver immediately reduced speed, activated the hazard lights, and steered the vehicle into the emergency lane. Fortunately, no accident occurred, although an SUV passed by quickly just as the EV pulled over.
Many EV drivers have a habit of leaving the hood slightly ajar, believing it helps to "cool the battery" or "cool the engine." However, this practice is extremely dangerous. At high speeds, strong winds can force the hood open, completely obstructing the driver's view and potentially causing an accident. Therefore, drivers must ensure the hood is securely closed before driving.
Opening the hood slightly does not improve EV performance. In most EVs, the battery pack is located under the floor of the vehicle and does not benefit from airflow through this gap.
