New generation Jeep Cherokee debuts, starting at 44,500 USD

The new generation SUV, equipped exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, initially offers two high-end versions, with the top trim priced at 48,000 USD.

American automaker Jeep has introduced the 2026 Cherokee ahead of its late 2025 launch. Sources indicate the Cherokee returns with a new hybrid powertrain, a significant addition to Jeep's lineup, enhancing its competitiveness within the segment.

The 2026 Cherokee utilizes a new 350 V hybrid powertrain from parent company Stellantis, designed specifically for this SUV. This is the sole powertrain option for the 2026 Cherokee at launch. It combines a 1.6 turbocharged gasoline engine with two electric motors and a small 1.08 kWh battery pack.

This hybrid system generates 210 horsepower and 312 Nm of torque. The vehicle utilizes Jeep's Active Drive I 4x4 system with a rear-axle locker and 4 driving modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Mud/Sand. Jeep claims the Cherokee Hybrid can travel 800 km with a fuel consumption of 7.7 liters/100 km and accelerate from 0-97 km/h in 8.3 seconds.

Built on the STLA Large platform, the 2026 Cherokee measures 4,888 mm long, 2,088 mm wide, and 1,888 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,833 mm, 150 mm longer than the previous generation. This increased size results in 30% more cargo space. The vehicle boasts approach and departure angles of 19.6 and 29.4 degrees respectively, a ground clearance of 203 mm, and a breakover angle of 18.8 degrees.

The 2026 Cherokee's exterior is redesigned while retaining signature Jeep styling cues. U-shaped daytime running lights encircle the LED headlights, reminiscent of the original XJ's boxy design. At the rear, a prominent D-shaped contour surrounds the taillights, inspired by military jerrycans.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee will launch later this year with the two highest trims, while two lower trims will be available from 2026.

The interior features a minimalist design, similar to the Wagoneer S. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster displays comprehensive vehicle information. A 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is standard, running the Uconnect 5 operating system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. The gear selector is a rotary dial, accompanied by a toggle for driving mode selection.

The vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive ADAS suite offering numerous active driver-assistance features and level 2 autonomous driving support. Options vary by trim and include a 360-degree camera, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, a camera providing a view from the front tire to the curb, a dual-pane sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee is scheduled to launch in late 2025 with the two highest trims, the Limited and Overland, priced at 44,500 USD and 48,000 USD respectively. The base model, priced at 39,000 USD, and the Laredo, at 42,000 USD, will follow in early 2026.
