Passing motorists quickly stopped to help. Some used a ladder to push the dangling officer upwards, while others used a vehicle to pull the heavily damaged patrol car away from the railing.
Both officers were transported to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Another individual suffered minor injuries in the accident.
The Lubbock Police Department's crash investigation unit is working to determine the cause of the semi-truck colliding with the parked patrol car. Images of the patrol car released during the sheriff's press conference showed the driver's side ripped open, highlighting the severity of the crash.
