While Honda and Acura sales saw a 4.4% increase this year, the most noteworthy aspect of their recent sales report is the impressive surge in Honda's electric vehicle sales. Driven by the growing popularity of the Prologue, these sales have increased by over 50% in the first half of the year.
Like its Japanese counterpart, Toyota, Honda has been somewhat slow to embrace the electric vehicle market. Currently, the Prologue is its sole battery-electric vehicle offering in the US. It's also not a fully in-house product, being built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Blazer EV and other General Motors vehicles.
However, Honda does offer hybrid versions of several popular models, including the Civic, CR-V, and Accord. The rising demand for hybrids has benefited the company.

In the first 8 months of this year, American Honda, encompassing both the Honda and Acura brands, sold a total of 992,904 vehicles across the US, a 4.4% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Of the 903,325 Honda vehicles sold, 306,252 were electric, a substantial 53.4% increase compared to the 199,597 electric vehicles sold during the same period the previous year.
The Prologue's popularity is evident in its sales figures. In the first 8 months of 2024, 10,394 units were sold in the US. The following year, sales soared by 207.7% to 31,982 units.
August was a particularly strong month for the Prologue, with 9,347 units sold, a 73.1% increase compared to 5,401 units in 2024. Like other automakers, this increase may be partly due to buyers taking advantage of the electric vehicle tax credit deadline on 30/9. This contrasts with Honda's overall August results, which saw a 4.9% decrease to 121,633 units.
The Prologue also outperformed the Ford Mustang Mach-E, which achieved a record 7,226 units sold in August. Hyundai's Ioniq 5 also had a breakthrough month with 7,773 sales, a 61% increase over August 2024.
Even amidst the excitement surrounding electric vehicles, Honda's established bestsellers remain key to the brand's success. The CR-V remains Honda's top-selling model, with 278,952 units sold this year, a 3.7% increase over 2024's 268,947 units. Trailing the CR-V is the Civic, with 168,876 units sold, a 2.2% decrease compared to 172,661 units in 2024.
In the US, the Prologue is available in two versions: FWD and AWD, both equipped with an 85 kWh Ultinum NCMA battery. The vehicle is priced between 49,000 and 59,300 USD.
