In a video captured by Albert Blackwell on 22/6, several cars are seen driving over what appears to be a small bump on a road in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. The bump becomes increasingly pronounced.
As a Toyota approaches, the road suddenly buckles with an audible pop, launching the car into the air. The car then slams down nose-first, but continues driving. Drivers of the following cars, witnessing the incident, slow down and cautiously navigate the damaged section of the road.
The city of Cape Girardeau, located approximately 115 miles southeast of St. Louis, reported that another road had also cracked due to the ongoing heatwave. Officials warned that similar incidents could continue due to sustained high temperatures.
The first major heatwave of 2025 has hit the US. This week, an expanding heat dome will subject over 190 million Americans in the east to temperatures exceeding 32°C. According to Fox Weather, some cities will experience temperatures above 37°C.
