Smart, the 50-50 joint venture between Mercedes and Geely, plans to launch the new #2 in China, Europe, and other international markets. As a two-door, two-seater A-segment car, the Smart #2 will effectively be an upgraded version of the iconic first-generation Smart Fortwo.
Designed by Mercedes, the #2 will be built on a new architecture platform developed by Smart's R&D team specifically for ultra-compact vehicles.

According to the manufacturer, the new model will "incorporate intelligent technological solutions while evolving the unique characteristics that made the original Smart Fortwo a city icon." This is a direct reference to the car that first appeared in 1998, underwent redesigns in 2006 and 2014, and was ultimately discontinued in 2024.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the Smart #2 is currently in its final design and development phase, with production planned in China.
The first generation of the two-seater city car, the Smart Fortwo, debuted in 1998 and achieved cumulative sales of over 2 million units. The brand originally targeted the premium small car segment as Mercedes' solution for urban mobility.
