The incident occurred on July 5th on National Highway 1A in Cam Lam commune. A motorbike emerged from a side road and crossed the intersection without checking for traffic or signaling, cutting off a tanker truck. The truck driver had to swerve sharply into the right lane to avoid a collision. This maneuver inadvertently cut off a truck already in the right lane. After other vehicles honked their horns, the motorbike driver finally moved to the right lane.
Drivers should reduce speed and carefully observe traffic before making maneuvers such as turning, entering a lane, or changing lanes, especially at intersections where accidents are common.
Vehicles approaching intersections should maintain a broad view of the road and proactively reduce speed. In this situation, the tanker truck driver, sitting at a higher vantage point, could have seen the motorbike from a distance and slowed down, honking the horn as a warning, instead of putting all vehicles at risk.
According to Decree 168/2024 on administrative sanctions in road traffic, improper lane changes without signaling or in violation of regulations carry fines of 200,000-400,000 VND for motorbikes and 600,000-800,000 VND for cars. If an accident occurs, the motorbike driver faces a fine of 10-14 million VND and the car driver 20-22 million VND. Both would also have 10 points deducted from their driving licenses.
